Still in Kansas

Well as I said in my last post today we were supposed to go to Memphis. The plan was to drive 600 miles and go see Graceland in the afternoon. I started driving around 10 am and while I was going over an overpass I lost power. I had no acceleration. Needless to say I was a little freaked out. Luckily we had enough momentum to go up and over the overpass and then we were able to pull off to the side of the road. It was a little scary. We had to wait an hour and a half for a tow truck to come and get us. When it got there we couldn't believe it, the truck was a huge semi.

Jill and I really enjoyed our drive to the service station in the truck. It was a huge cab, with a back bed. The back had a flat screen tv and playstation. The panel in front of the driver was covered with so many buttons, switches and dials it was crazy. Possibly the best part was that there was a card for truck beauty contests! The driver obviously was proud of his truck and showed it off at these contests. I didn't know there was such a thing.

Once we got to the service station they told it was going to be awhile and generously offered to take us to the mall that was nearby. I don't think they wanted two girls hanging around their shop. A very old man with very few teeth drove us to the mall in a ford focus that had role down windows and no AC. He was so odd. I couldn't help thinking 'where are we?' 

We spent the time at the mall wisely and got pedicures. Another guy that was a little more normal than the first guy (and younger, with all his teeth) gave us a ride back to the auto shop. They thought they would have to keep our truck for a day or two to figure out what the problem was and fix it. We had to decide between two options. The first was to wait around for the truck and get to Atlanta on Wednesday after the expo had already started. The second was to rent a different truck, get to Atlanta on time to help the guys set up for the expo and then have to drive back to Wichita before we went to Wisconsin. We decided that we would wait in Kansas till the truck was done. The only important thing that we had in our truck for the expo was the flooring but the rest of the team could do without it for one event. 

After we made the decision to stay in Wichita we got a hotel and hung out for a while. The day had already flown by, it was 5 by the time we got to the hotel and it was around 10:30 when the truck first broke down. The day wasn't very productive. The hotel we stayed at was in the middle of what seemed to be an industrial area. There was a western store next door though. We went and explored there for a while. They actually had some really cute stuff. Jill wants to buy a motorcycle so she decided she needed an outfit for it. She tried on some leather chaps and jackets and decided to buy some. It was an entertaining way to spend an hour in Kansas. 

Hopefully we'll get to start our trip to Atlanta again tomorrow without anymore problems!
